"A Bad Year for Tomatoes"-day 2 (sort of)

I am off to the theater to work on the set. I have lots to report about my visit from England...but duty calls. More soon.

Today I plan to clean a piece of furniture and prepare to paint the walls of the set.

"A Bad Year for Tomatoes"--getting started

Geraldine can now claim that she has worked in theater on two continents. She came with me today and we painted a base coat onto as much of the set as seemed necessary. The set is not finished, and I know Augie is planning to make a 'stone' fireplace--so I know there is more to come, but we got a good basecoat on the set and have chosen the colors for the walls. Sylvia popped in while we were there and had her say about the colors...she was campaigning for a much more 'orange' color than I had in mind. I wanted to do a dark green on the upper portions of the wall and a buttercreamy yellow on the part below the chair rail. Sylvia corrected pointed out that any 'cream' color is going to look white or dirty white under the lights. She really liked a color I liken to the fake American cheese we used to serve our children--she called it 'gold.' I hated it. I really like dark green and buttercream I have in my head....I guess I had better use a test board and look st the colors under the stage lights after it dries.
After the theater, we came home and watched the last two shows of 'Friends' because I finally located my Season 10 under the TV stand...we had been talking about one of the Tournament of Plays judges we met while doing theater at SHAPE and how she was so nice to our friend's child when the child recognized her from the last episode of the show. Carole Gutierrez played the nurse that helps deliver Chandler and Monica's babies. (Useless aside--I took an acting class from her during the One Act Play Festival I attended in 2003. I met a woman who met the 'Friends'!) Geraldine wanted to see if she recognized her on the show. Later, we went out for Thai food, which was delicious if a bit too spicy. We learned to order 'mild' not 'medium' when ordering Thai food.

Geraldine arrives today!

My British friend is coming for a visit! Her husband Kevin is sending her to me as a 'care package.' How sweet is that? Gotta go get ready!

Ryan's birthday

Regular readers may have noticed a dearth of blogging recently...for good reason. I was visiting up north for my grandson's fourth birthday! There was a 'family' party on the actual birthday, and a 'friends' party the Saturday morning following. I got to attend both. Hee.

At the family gathering, Jen prepared a lovely spread of breads and lunch meats so we could all join Ryan when he had his chosen birthday dinner of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

The Birthday Spread. Notice the Curious George theme in the balloons, and the traditional family Happy Birthday banner on the wall. Wouldn't be a birthday without the banner!

After the meal, Ryan wanted to open gifts first. He opened and MP3 player (kid edition) from Mommy and Daddy, then two Lego kits from Grandma and Grandpa. Then it seemed there were no more gifts! Until Aunt Bee went downstairs and brought up her gift. Sadly, my memory is not serving me well....but Ryan enjoyed it! Then Grandmommy went down to get the gift from herself and Granddaddy--Books! Ryan loves to be read to, and he loves the ABC's and learning how the sounds go together, so books are a perfect gift for him.
