Grandchildren are delightful *news about the egg
I just read in Jenny's blog that Lily, after hearing Daddy talk like a pirate, spoke to Jen saying "Arrrrg, me parties!" Made me laugh out loud, then cackle and chortle. I will be laughing over this for weeks. Those of you who know me--go ahead, imagine it. You know you can.
I also wanted to remember some things from the combined birthday party we held for Mom and Dad this weekend. First, Ryan's cards for Mom were just adorable. He made them himself, and didn't even show them to Jen. One was a picture of Mom and Dad, which was a treasure. The other said "To MomMom from Ryan." Under that was some cut up construction paper glued to the card. It reminded me of a stained glass window. Inside was a ticket for 'one free hug.' Mom absolutely loved it.
Lily was excited for MomMom to open her gift, too. Hers wasn't wrapped, so she put it inside a 'Hello, Kitty' carry-all. Lily's was a picture she made with crayon drawings and words she wrote herself, as well as foam glue-ons. She even added a bow to her bag when she was helping me add bows to MY gifts. It was very cute.
Later in the day, the three older great-grandchildren that were present played a game of hunting Easter Eggs. Mom had decorated with plastic eggs. Lily filled them with some of the candy from the candy dishes around the room, then the kids hid them and found them again. At one point, all three kids (Lily, Ryan and Colin) were hunting very hard for one egg. They got lots of help, but it was hidden very well. After a while, Colin announced that the egg hunt was OVER. I asked "so that means you found the yellow egg?" "NO!" said Colin, very definitively. He got a good laugh from all the grown-ups in the room.
All the grown-ups enjoyed watching the two baby boys--Sean and Jameson--play together. They were sitting on the floor with their mommies, playing with some colorful cups when my niece Anne said wistfully "I want a baby!" Anne's mother's eyes popped, but her Uncle Rob (my brother) indicated the two little ones on the floor and said "Pick one!" More laughs. It was a good afternoon of catching up with everyone, and I think Mom and Dad had a grand time. I sure hope so.
*During the week after the party, Mom and Dad told me about how they found the missing egg. Seems Mom went in to get a shower, and found it at the bottom of the tub when she went to turn on the water! She said it could not be seen from the doorway. One had to look directly down into the tub. Too funny!
